Donald and Susan Knotts are both prominent in the Puyallup community. Donald is the varsity football coach at Puyallup High School and Susan is a well-liked teacher there.

Gary and Jeanette Blacklocke are one of the most wealthy families in Puyallup and very well connected in the State. Gary owns and runs the largest car dealership in the area and Jeanette is a very successful real estate agent.

Lucinda and Margo (Wellington) Douglas are the resident nut cases and represent a large portion of the gay community in Puyallup. Lucinda was married to Lyle McMasters, a prominent lawyer who died after Holden's birth in a car accident before she come out. After his death, she took her maiden name, as did her children, and she eventually met Margo in a widow/widowers support group. Margo was mourning the death of her lover, Celeste, and the two hit it off. Lucinda manages an art supply store and Margo owns a metaphysical surplus store. They opted for the smaller town of Puyallup as apposed to the larger and near by Tacoma despite the very negative attitude towards non-conformaty in the small city.

Hector and Maria Vilagomez left the hardships in their native Latin America (Hector from Peru and Maria from Guatemala) to make a new life for themselves in America. He works as a freelance contractor/electrition for the expanding suburban area and Maria is a nanny/maid.

Joseph and Miriam Weinberg |

Joseph and Miriam Weinberg are the foremost (and almost only) Jewish family in town. Joseph is a Rabbi in the local synagogue. Miriam works a local bakery and is member of the Puyallup school district, she's outspoken in local government and is twice nominated (though never elected) for city council.

Neil and Laura Blacklocke both work at the Blacklocke Brother's car dealership, one of the largest in the region. Neil is the younger of the two brothers and has always lived in his brother's shoes. He joined in the dealership business when he was having some financial issues and has yet to leave.
