Appearance: Standing at 5'2, Astrid's most striking features are her blue-green eyes, which slant upward just slightly at the outer corners, giving her a unique look. She keeps her blonde-hair straight and chin-length, layered just a litle to give it body, and mostly wears jeans and various t-shirts, anything that's comfortable, clean, and serves the purpose of clothing her; beyond that she doesn't really care. Because of this she doesn't wear much makeup, unless she's attending an event that's specifically dressy, which she tries to avoid as much as possible. She is slim and lithe from constant physical activity and smart eating, and she's never really had a problem staying slender without trying.

Personality: Astrid has grown up as a very confident girl, despite the fact that the family that surrounds her has not always been so strong. She approchaes life with optimism, but more than that she is so involved in her own activities that little of the outside world impacts on her, unless it's something huge. Her father has never really been around, but she's used to that and doesn't really mind, being happy to see him when he's there but okay when he's not. She is very motivated in school, and lives for the school newspaper. She wants to be a journalist and pursues that dream with her whole heart.

Friends: Her best friend is Mahala Owens; they compliment each other nicely because Mahala is bubbly and outgoing while Astrid is more quiet and studious. Other than that she doesn't have a lot of friends; most people think she's just a dork or a perfectionist, which she is.

History: When Parker was on leave he and Sarah had a short love affair, which produced Gavin. Parker didn't enjoy having a child with someone he barely knew, but visited occasionally for Gavin's sake. He and Sarah rekindled their romance once when Gavin was still a baby, and this is how Astrid came about. After that the two never got together again, but he continued to visit so Astrid did grow up with a sporadic fatherly presence in her life. Despite the fact that she and Gavin are full siblings, she and her brother and mother have all been asked at least a few times if the kids different fathers, something that really irritates Astrid.

Growing up, Astrid's uncle Ryan, Sarah's brother, was present much more than her father was, and in a way he filled some of the gaps that Parker missed because of always being gone. However, Astrid was intuitive from an early age and sensed the tension between her mother and uncle, so her relationship with him never became as close as it might have had her uncle not constantly borrowed money from her mother and failed to pay it back every time. Despite this tension, Astrid felt satisified with only her mother and brother as constants in her life, and her uncle and father as cameos. Sarah more than made up for the lackings of her other two parental figures, and aside from normal sibling rivalry she's never doubted that Gavin loves her.

Despite the closeness that the two siblings shared growing up, when Gavin started getting into trouble with their uncle the two kids started to drift. Astrid had always been more focused on school than her brother and though she loved her uncle she hated it when he would show up drunk or high. Gavin would often be the mediator in times like this, but as the years went by he began to spend more and more time with Ryan. Astrid figured that maybe because he was a boy he needed more of a fatherly influence in his life, and she knew they both suffered to an extent because of ther mother's profession, no matter how classy she was at it.

About a year ago Gavin and Ryan got in a lot more trouble than usual when Ryan took his nephew on a robbery with some friends that went horribly wrong when a tourist was killed by one of Ryan's friends. Astrid watched as the guilt ate up her brother, though the two clashed significantly when she tried to get an exclusive report on it for the high school newspaper, hoping to be the first middle school student ever to publish there before actually being in the school. Ultimately, Gavin turned their uncle in and spent two months in juvenile hall, during which time Astrid missed him terribly. She wrote a large article on the subject as her first submission to the high school paper, in the hopes that when he returned to school this year people wouldn't automatically condemn him for his part in the robbery. Her uncle is doing five years himself for the crime, and she has been working to get an exclusive interview with him as well, but her age makes it difficult for her to be allowed in to the prison, even as a visitor.

Other than the problems that her brother and uncle, Astrid has led a happy life. Like her brother with girls, she hardly notices boys, even though over the last couple of years she has gradually become aware of the fact that she's considered to be pretty by others. Boys are starting to notice her, but she has a yet to be asked out by anyone and feels as though boys her own age are pretty immature. She thinks she'd do better with a boyfriend a grade or two above her, but knows the likelihood of someone that age asking her out is probably pretty slim. But she isn't too worried about it, and believes things like relationships will happen when they do, and she doesn't feel she really has time for it anyway. She'd be quite surprised actually if anyone even noticed her beyond an approving glance.
